  • Hey Little Sister What Have You Done?

    Things Accomplished on my "Vacation:"

Decided on and ordered wedding dress (mother and self still alive, minimal blood loss)

    Ordered strapless undergarment contraption

Chose bridesmaid dresses and sent email with sizing/ ordering information to said bridesmaids

Chose photographer (check and contract to be put in the mail tomorrow)

Met with 2 florists (waiting for proposal from one, need to talk further with the other)

Sampled both cupcakes and regular cakes (will probably go with cupcakes because that's what DP really wants and it's about the only thing he's "won" on regarding the wedding), need to meet with wedding cupcake coordinator in future pre-wedding trip to Seattle.

Took pictures of inside of Mansion to help with floral and ceremony planning (the pictures on the website really don't do the mansion justice). I will post some when I get back to SF (DP left the cord to the camera in SF).

  • Mmmmmm... Rage-ahol

The stress and lack of sleep are getting to me and I am currently taking it out on everyone around me. I hate me when I am like this. I am short and snappish with people (read DH and my family). I am no fun to play games with (read grumbly and childish, not really my best side). My reflux has been worse, so bad the other night that even with taking the prescription strength Zantac (usually I only need to take the OTC dose, which is half the prescription strength), I barely got any sleep because it kept me up. I need sleep, but that's not going to happen because I have to be up early tomorrow. Grumble, grumble.

Mantra for tomorrow: I am an adult, I cannot control my feelings, but I can control my behavior. Others don't deserve surly-ness just because I am stressed out and tired. It will all be okay.

(That's kind of long for a mantra, but there it is.)

  • Dress Shopping, Day One:
Mom and I head to David's Bridal, not necessarily planning to get my dress there, but they have a large selection of types of dresses. My plan: go in and try on a bunch of dresses and see what I like and what looks good on. So we drive all the way up to Lynnwood, get there, pick out a bunch of dresses 10+, then I stroll over to an otherwise unoccupied sales lady and tell her I would like a dressing room to try on dresses, she says "well, have you filled out the paperwork?" Paperwork? Just to try on dresses? So I walk up to the front of the store and fill out "paperwork," also known as "Give us your name and address and email address so we can spam you up the yingyang and sell your address to all of the other wedding related businesses ever in existence." I gave them my mom's address :o ) (with my mom's permission, of course). Then the 5'1" size 0 on a fat day sales assistant takes me back to the dressing rooms and gets me the slip/ petticoat to wear and a strapless bra and says that "we''ll start with three" and later says "you know, it's better not to try on too many." Which, although she was generally very nice, I took to mean, "please don't make me help you try on every dress in the store." To which, I mentally replied "if it takes trying on on every dress in the store to find one I really like, then that's what I'm going to do." I tried on a total of about 12 dresses, narrowed it down to two I could stand, but overall was not thrilled with the options.

    Dress Shopping,  Day Two:
Bellevue Bridal Boutique (BBB) requires appointments to try dresses on if you go in there on the weekends. We went on Saturday, more just to see if they had anything worth making an appointment over, then my mom (insert eye roll here) kind of gently pushed the sales assistant into letting me try on some dresses anyway. When I got a chance, I let the sales person know that I understood she was making an exception and if she needed to go help someone else or let someone else use the dressing room, I understood, she said it was fine, apparently they had a cancelation. I tried on about 6-7 dresses and found 3 I really liked. (Yay!)

So, there's one more bridal shop I want to go check out tomorrow, and then we'll probably go back to BBB and try on the three I liked (and possible more, we'll see). There was one that my mom really, really likes and I'm close to liking it that much except I would prefer it in a taffeta, instead of the organza overlay-- you'd have to see it to see what I mean. I need to order a dress by the end of the week in order to have it in time for all the alterations.

Undergarment Shopping (in which I take the time to wallow in self pity):
Forgive my wallowing for a minute, but, it is hard enough to try and find a nice gown in my size (but they are out there), but there are plenty of women my size and larger that don't also have huge breasts that make finding a strapless bra almost impossible. PLUS, I have big feet (size 11.5- 12), so finding shoes to go with the dress is also going to be super fun. Anyway, even at David's Bridal, the largest strapless contraption they had was only a DD (I could actually hear my breasts giggling at the thought that a DD was going to try and contain them). Last night I went on the internets and fruitlessly searched for something in my size and was unable to find anything above a DD. Today, my mom and I headed to Bellevue Square and started at Macy's, who were no help whatsoever, stopped in at Lane Bryant (because they carry larger size women's bras and because they are located right outside Macy's) who were *more* helpful (they had a couple in my size, but the garment didn't come down far enough and... well... was not flattering, let's just say) and finally ended up at Nordstrom, who were the most helpful. What it came down to, even at Nordstrom, was "we don't carry your size in a strapless bustier, but we can call the Nordstrom in your hometown and have them special order it from a catalog, it should take about 4 weeks to arrive." So I looked at the catalog, picked out what I wanted, they called the Nordstrom in SF and wrote all info down for me. Here's the problem, waiting 4 weeks for a garment that might not even fit is crazy. I appreciate all the hard work the ladies at Nordstrom did, but I went back to my mom's and looked up the same brand on the internet and found a place that could ship in 5 days. I feel bad, but I can't wait the 4 weeks.

Anyway, the brand, for any of you larger chested ladies, is Goddess Bras. They're expensive, but I don't really have much choice (and this is for my wedding, so I'm willing to spend a bit more for something pretty).

  • No work for me! :o ) Now... to put number 1 on the aforementioned to do list into action... zzzzZZZzzzz...ZZZzzzz.

  • Packing Sucks, Packing When You're Tired Sucks More

Tomorrow night, after work, I'm going home for about 2 weeks. I am second on the list to get holiday tomorrow (as in, not have to go to work) and they'll call me tomorow after 5am (5am is the cutoff time for sick calls). When I left work tonight, there were 24 people scheduled to work tomorrow, but we were only using 18, which means I have a pretty good shot at getting the holiday (unless there are a lot of sick calls or we get a ton of admissions). But, on the off chance I have to go to work, I have to pack tonight. Bleh.

Things I will have time to do tomorrow if I do not go to work:
    -Sleep in (DONE)
-Work out (not DONE, I am a bad person)
-Send out email with Marriott info to friends/family (Email written, DP is updating the email list and will send it out)
-Approve final proof of invitations (DONE)
-Reschedule dental appointment (completely forgot about)
-Go in to work (on my off time) to electronically review my past timecards and make a list of the times when I got a holiday where they were supposed to NOT use my vacation time, but did, and send an email to the admin. team about the issue. Grrrr... (kind of DONE)

    Things to do in Seattle:
    -florist
    -photographer
    -wedding dress
-cupcake tasting (it's a chore, but someone's got to do it, right?)
-have a long talk with my brother (or, shall we say, have a talk that's been a long time coming)

I guess I need to get off the computer and... pack. Yay.

  • Today's To Do:

-Sign and fax contract with Marriott (DONE-- okay, so DP had to do it because I couldn't get our printer to work and we don't have a fax machine at home, but I was the one who called in the first place, then called yesterday to clarify some details of the contract, so that we would feel comfortable signing it.)

-Confirm reservation w/ Salish Lodge (DP to do, DONE)

-Pick up Package at UPS (DONE)

    -Buy Pedometer (DONE)

-Make appt. w/ plastic surgeon (DONE, finally! And I called my regular doc so that she knew who to put the referral through for. Downside, the first appointment I could get isn't until mid to late February.)

-Make appt. w/ dentist (for crown DONE)

-Change appt. w/ EpiCenter (DONE I am just a call-making machine today)

-Draft email re: Hotel for Wedding List (once I have the details from the Marriott)

-Review proof of invitations (So Pretty!) and approve or make changes.

    -Grocery shopping (DONE)

-work out (? maybe, I worked out yesterday and the day before and now my calf hurts a little, but I have to work tomorrow and thursday, so the next available day to work out would be Friday DONE)

    Better get cracking.

  • Still waiting for Marriott to get back to me. I did manage to call the Salish Lodge today and get some info about having the rehearsal dinner there, now DP and I need to chat about it before we commit to anything.

    Bed time.

  • So, the trip to the dentist wasn't that bad, of course we ended up doing work on a different tooth (hey-- I held and was responsible for the majority of the suctioning, so I can say "we"). Right now, my jaw is a little hurty from the injections, but the drilling and filling were physically painless. I *really* hate the drilling. I pretty much had to mentally talk myself through it "it's okay... it will be over soon..." I did little mental imagery things to try and distract myself from the anxiety like repeating the alphabet and forcing myself to visualize the sign language hand shapes for each letter. Anyway, it's over... until next week, when we have to do the tooth we were supposed to do today. And then sometime after that to crown the tooth they did the root canal on. It's a good thing I like my dentist because I am going to be seeing a lot of her.

Then, I finally called Marriott and got the ball rolling, as far as reserving a block of rooms for May, I am now just waiting for them to email me the contract. I also emailed the coordinator at the Stimson-Green Mansion to confirm the time for the rehearsal and to ask some logistics questions (like... so if I pick a florist, I assume the florist and I will need to do a walkthrough of the mansion to figure out how many and where arrangements should go, right?).

Oh... and have I missed something? Why is the spellchecker on xanga saying that "okay" is misspelled? Anyone? Have I been misspelling this word my whole life?

  • The Rhythm Is Going To Get Me

DP and I went and saw Pan's Labyrinth last night, a terrifically imaginative fairy tale and horribly violent drama all in one. Definitely NOT for kids, but a visually stunning and compelling story, nonetheless.

Today we went and ordered the wedding invitations, so I guess I really have to marry him now :o ) . Then we went and got the car washed and went to the gym. After years of being "afraid" of the elliptical (as in afraid to even try it), I've actually come to prefer it to the treadmill. First, it's easier on the joints, and second, you can set your own pace with how fast you are moving your feet-- i.e.: if you want to go faster, you just go faster, and if you need to slow down, you just slow down, as opposed the the treadmill where you have to dial up and down the speeds and wait for the machine to go faster or slower. In my case, I think I am actually able to get a better work out and an higher average speed because I am able to adjust my rate so quickly. Also, I've discovered that I get a better work out listening to music than watching the TV. Initially, I thought the TV would serve as a more powerful distraction, and therefore make the working out more bearable, but due to all the commercials, it's actually not that distracting and I go faster listening to music because I tend to fall in rhythm with the beat. I might even pluck up the courage to use the free consult with a personal trainer to ask about exercises to strengthen my abdominal muscles, as I am beginning to think that will be key to relieving my lower back pain issues.

    Sleepy time. Goodnight.

  • I Wasn't Prepared For The Smell

Although, in hind sight it makes perfect sense. So, I went for my first laser hair removal treatment today. They had me put on numbing cream about 20 minutes ahead of time, but it still hurt. It was tolerable, kind of like someone snapping a rubber band against my skin (really hard in some places). But I wasn't prepared for the fact that it would smell like burnt hair-- if only because they have you shave the area in advance, so how much could be left to burn? And, a question of etiquette, are you supposed to tip the person who performs the treatment?

Saw the dentist yesterday, and now I get to see her next Tuesday and the Tuesday after that. Next Tuesday she has to do work on the tooth next to the one we couldn't get numb last time. I might make DP come and hold my hand.
