  • I Think I'm In Love

I use my cell phone to make calls and occasionally text, that's it. For a few years now, DP, being the technophile that he is, has used his cell phone for email, to look up sports scores, and more recently to look up locations on google maps. I have been resistant to adopting such technology as it has always appeared difficult to navigate with minimally impressive results (though the google maps thing is pretty cool/ helpful).

    Today, I am a believer.

Why? Because today Apple announced it's new iPhone. If I were not engaged, I would marry this device. Click here and then click on the "Watch iPhone Introduction" bar to hear why it is so much better than anything else out there, by far.

So pretty. So functional. Apple, I love you.

Oh... and I made the appointment to get my hair done today, so that's one more thing off the list. Yay for me.

  • Yay for Anecdotal Evidence! Yay for Placebo Effect!

After having full body aches, fatigue, and fever all yesterday, I am feeling much better today. Not perfect, but the fever is gone and the aches are very minor. What do I credit with this miracle? Airborne tabs. It may be a coincidence, but since I have been taking them before and after getting on planes, I have gotten sick fewer times, and I took the airborne tabs twice yesterday and twice today. Who knows if it's really helping, but I figure the vitamins aren't going to hurt.

Anyway...on to the news you've all been waiting for:
    *The Epi Center-- DONE!
*Dermatologist/ Plastic Surgeon-- Called at 4:30, apparently they were out of the office already.
    *Dentist-- DONE!
*Hair cut-- also called and no one answered. (DONE as of 1/9)
*Marriot -- still need to call, but 4 out of 5 isn't bad, right? RIGHT?!

P.S. "Illinois," alternately called "Come on Feel the Illinoise!" is a terrific album, but I have to say that the song "John Wayne Gacy, Jr.," appropriately, creeps me out a little bit.

  • Ok... this is going to sound very convenient (and trust me, it is absoultely NOT), but I am giving myself a least a day reprieve from making the calls, as I woke up with full body aches and am now running a temperature. I need to be better by Friday because I am working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and I was out sick last Thursday and Friday due to what I think was food poisoning (thank you, Seatac Airport), which means I  don't have any sick time. And I've already got a "letter" in my "file" for going over my sick time. Please, whatever sickness you are, go away. Please.

  • And the Hits Just Keep On Coming!

Here at mischievium.com, we strive to provide constant, edge-of-your-seat, pulse-pounding blog action 24-7, 365. All for you, my dear readers.

So, have I mentioned that I hate making phone calls? And yet, surprisingly, the number of calls I need to make keeps getting longer. So, how about this: Tonight, I'll make a list of all the places I need to call and make appointments with and I'll update it tomorrow with all the calls I've made. Ooooooooooh! Will the excitement ever end? Not if I have anything to say about it.

    Appointments to make:
*The Epi Center (regarding laser hair removal, good times. Why does calling a place like this feel like calling the popular kids in high school and telling them all about you most embarrassing personal problems? Oh well, it must be done.)
*Dermatologist/ Plastic Surgeon (re: having mole on face/ neck removed, I've had the referral since about August, maybe it's time to pick up the phone, ya think?)
*Dentist (Will someone come hold my hand? Despite the extensive amount of dental work I've had done throughout my life, I wasn't afraid of the dentist until after my last appointment where the dentist took out an old filling and then couldn't hit the right place to fully numb the tooth, but the tooth was open, so we just had to press on. It's not that it really hurt that much, it was just the fear of how much it *could* hurt at any moment. Anyway, she and I are going to have to talk about that before she goes near me with a drill again.)
    *Hair cut
*Marriot  re: reserving a block of hotel rooms for May (Can you hear the sound of my feet dragging? Drag, drag, drag.)

    Other To Do:
*Book tickets to Seattle in February (vacation time= time to pick out florists/ photographers, look at houses, etc.)
*Start the wedding dress hunt (Just thinking about it makes me want to poke my own eyes out, which paradoxically, if I did, I couldn't see how bad I'm going to look, which would make me not want to poke my own eyes out-- just can't win for losing)
*Decide on place for Rehearsal Dinner (and make reservations)

  • More Details of My EXTREMELY Exciting Life

This year, in addition to having Christmas off, I actually had New Year's Eve and, more importantly, New Year's Day off (what's the point of having New Year's Eve off if you have to get up at 5 in the morning, right?). Sooooo... I got tickets for DP and I to go to the 2006 Comedy Countdown at the Palace of Fine Arts. For someone who loves comedy as much as I do, this was an awesome way to ring in the new year. The evening was very ably hosted by comedian Doug Benson (as seen on VH1's Best Week Ever, it's nice when the host can hold his own with the other comedians) featuring Daniel Tosh, Brian Posehn, Scott Capurro, and Arj Barker with headliner Zach Galifinakis. The two DP and I liked best were Daniel Tosh and Scott Capurro (the latter throwing Political Correctness to the wind, to put it mildly), though I thought all the comedians were great with each having distinctive styles and pacing.

  • New Year's Resolutions: 2006 Review, Projections for 2007

    Goals for 2006:
-get in better physical shape (didn't happen)
-do more creative things (learn to knit, write more) (also, didn't happen)
-get married (or get the planning started, starting with the engagement) (am engaged, will be getting married this coming year)
-get pregnant (why? cuz I'm turning 29 this year, byotch. This goal may
not happen this year, but I am stating my intention to the universe.) (didn't try, but DP has decided that he is now ready)
-get new glasses (you saw the picture)

    Goals for 2007:

Well, let's begin with things we (DP and I)  have planned for 2007:
    -get married
-buy a house (which involves quitting my job and moving to Seattle and... buying a house )
    -get pregnant/ have a baby

After listing all of those MAJOR LIFE CHANGES, I'm not sure that I'm going to have any extra energy to put into trying to change anything else in my life. BUT, I would like to:

-get in better physical shape (I'm already having some back problems, which will only get worse during pregnancy if I don't start doing something about it)
    -do more creative things

  • Procrastination

I'm way behind on the following things:

    * Christmas shopping

    * Looking for a wedding dress (I don't even want to go into what an ego-crushing, soul-destroying ordeal this is turning out to be. I proposed to DP last night that our wedding be one big pajama party-- then we can wear pajamas at the altar, he did not seem to go for it.)

    * Looking for bridesmaids dresses (ego-crushes and soul-destruction for all! :o )  )

    * Picking out a photographer/ florist/ ???? (where ???? = anything else for the wedding that I'm not even thinking of yet)

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!

  • Odds and Ends

I just started reading TCOYF and I am feeling particularly validated by her discussion of the fact that since the dawn of modern contraception, the focus has been on products for the woman. That what began as a tool for sexual liberation, has now put the responsibility for preventing pregnancy predominantly on the woman with the consequence being that we are the ones to suffer all of the side effects. I stopped taking the pill about 2 years ago because I felt it was contributing to depression and was completely killing my desire to have sex at all-- Which leads to a fun little paradox, right? I take the pill to prevent pregnancy, but the pill makes me not want to have sex, so why take the pill if I'm not having sex?

So, while we're talking about major life changes, DP and I have been talking about buy a house, with this comes the topic of moving. I just *can't* see buying a house here. I <3 SF, but housing prices are insane. If we were multimillionaires, I would consider it, but housing prices here are just nuts. For what we would pay for one unit in a building in SF, we could buy a 3 bedroom house in Seattle proper (Like Green Lake, Fremont, Wallingford, Phinney). How would I know, oh yeah, because we are looking at moving to Seattle. Fun websites to check out : Redfin and Seattlehome.com .

As far as the wedding goes, lets see, we have the place (includes catering), the minister (DP's uncle is a methodist minister), and now (I think) we have found invitations. Just need to nail down a photographer and florist. I am also working on the bridesmaid dress thing and, man! are there some ugly dresses out there! So many to choose from! :o )
